Review of Todays Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow

I'm a middle aged man with a bad back and therefore cannot possibly get pregnant under any circumstances. I did hear about these pillows on a radio program, however, and decided to try this particular one for some much needed back support while in bed.

I was so thrilled with how well the pillow seems to have the much needed bumps and nooks just where you need them for both back and abdominal support. I slept with mine for the first time last night (after making some pillow cases for it...) and truly had an amazing sleep experience. I never thought my best spooning would be with some polyester batting in a keyhole shaped pillow. Go figure.

Some have mentioned that the enclosed pillow cover might be a bit caustic to the skin. It is made from a woven interfacing material and I believe is meant only to be a pillow protector as opposed to being an actual pillow case. Should Ralph Lauren have made such a pillow slip, let me tell you, it would clearly have listed for more than the actual pillow I purchased.

Since I'm not unfamiliar with a sewing machine or DIY projects I decided to make some pillow cases for this odd duck from some old Ralph Lauren oxford cloth sheets. I can tell you from experience it is a rather large footprint. You might squeeze two sides from a fitted queen sheet if you are lucky but I can definitely get three sides from a flat queen sheet if I take out the stitching on the top hem. Use the pillow protector as your pattern piece. It works just fine.

I'm not sure my idea of a fun Saturday morning is placing 30" zippers into pillow slips, but let me assure you the second one went in more easily than the first. They do sell a 30" light weight zipper at my local fabric store as a "robe replacement" zipper that suits the job perfectly.

The rest of the sewing is pretty straight forward except for the inner curve at the top. My pillow protector has a second panel sewn in at that position but I just cut slits in the selvage to releast the tension. I had already serpentine stitched the selvage so it wouldn't let go. It seemed to work out just fine.

So for those who are pregnant or the middle aged among us with bad backs, please do consider trying this product. If you are at all skilled with a sewing machine, make yourself some pillow cases and use the pillow liberally. I can't recommend it highly enough as something to brace your back, to cuddle your body, or to simply support those extra body parts you didn't see coming.
